No record of broadcast: Spell of Evil

Postponed: The Fear Is Spreading (6.9.82, rescheduled 1.11.82); I'm the Girl He Wants To Kill (1.11.82, rescheduled 3.1.83) The fact that Anglia last screened the show as early as February 1984 while other regions continued to broadcast for months later might suggest it had screened its full quota and that Spell of Evil aired at some unknown point.

The rather dismissive synopsis for Once the Killing Starts states "A professor kills his wife, and so on."

Thanks to Martin Marshall for some of these details including transmission times.

  1. Very recent info for Anglia seems to indicate that 'The Fear is Spreading' aired on 6.9.1982 and 3 'unknown episode' dates were 7.6.1982, 28.6.1982 and 1.11.1982. This would give all 43 episodes airing in the region, with the three 'unknown episode' dates available for 'Death in Deep Water', 'Look Back in Darkness' and 'Spell of Evil'

  2. There may have been a very recent update but the latest I had is the episodes shown on 7.6.82 & 6.9.82 were Carnation Killer and The Fear Is Spreading but both these later reappeared in the schedules so they must have been replaced - Fear of Spreading is billed for 1.11.82 displacing I'm the Girl He Wants To Kill to 3.1.83. Listings do sometimes conflict and I agree it is possible the apparently un-shown episodes aired on the apparently blank dates of 7.6.82 and 6.9.82 although it's also possible unrelated programmes appeared.

  3. I meant to add that 28.6.82 is definitely known to have been an unnamed Thriller broadcast so that indeed makes 3 dates were Thriller was billed and so all 3 "missing" episodes could have slotted into those.

  4. Both the Guardian and Mirror did indeed have 'Carnation Killer' on 7.6.82, could well have been a late change for another episode maybe down to the wrong tape being sent to Anglia or some other admin error perhaps? The timeslot was 11-12.25. Anyway nice to think that Anglia got all 43 shown.

  5. That's an interesting point about why a different episode to that listed might be shown - sometimes just a practical issue of tape availability. A local paper might clear up some of these changes but even that can miss out on very late changes, e.g. a big news event that caused a change in schedule.

The American influence on Thriller

Although Thriller was a British TV series one of the most striking aspects is the strong American influence upon the show. indeed this was ...
